Dead Fake

Okay, this one was FUN. And by fun, I mean creepy, twisty, slightly stressful, and exactly the kind of book that makes me suspicious of absolutely everyone.

Dead Fate by Vincent Ralph has that wonderfully unsettling feeling where you know something is wrong, but you can't quite figure out exactly what. Every time I thought I had a handle on where the story was going, it gave me another reason to change my mind.

I really liked the tension in this one. There's a constant feeling of danger hanging over the story, and Ralph does a great job of giving you just enough information to keep you guessing without showing his hand too early. Of course, that meant I spent half the book coming up with theories. Some were pretty good. Others were apparently created by someone who has read WAY too many thrillers.

A few moments dragged a little, but once things really started coming together, I was completely invested. And I definitely appreciated that the story wasn't afraid to get dark.

Creepy atmosphere. Secrets. Suspicious characters. Plenty of twists.

Basically… all the things that make me say, “Just one more chapter,” and then suddenly wonder why it's ridiculously late.
