Evalina is one of those books that sneaks up on you—quiet at first, almost delicate—and then suddenly you realize you’re completely wrapped up in the story. The author does a beautiful job balancing atmosphere and emotion, creating a world that feels both intimate and unsettling.
Evalina herself is a compelling character. She’s layered in a way that feels real: strong but unsure, curious but cautious, and carrying more weight than she lets on. Watching her navigate the secrets around her—especially the ones tied to her family—kept me turning pages. There’s a slow-burning tension throughout the book that never feels forced; it just builds naturally as the truth starts to unravel.
The writing is vivid without being overdone. Some scenes linger in your mind long after you’ve moved on, especially the quieter moments where Evalina tries to make sense of what she’s discovering. The emotional beats land well, and the darker undercurrents give the story a depth I didn’t expect going in.
