Well, this was toxic, glamorous, completely unhinged…and I kind of loved watching the whole thing fall apart.

Social Creature drops you into this glittery New York world of parties, money, beautiful people, bad decisions, and friendships that probably should come with warning labels.

At the center of it all are Louise and Lavinia, and let me just say—this is NOT the kind of friendship where you exchange cute bracelets and meet for coffee. This is obsession, jealousy, manipulation, and a whole lot of “Girl, WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!”

The deeper Louise gets pulled into Lavinia’s world, the more uncomfortable everything becomes. You know things are heading somewhere terrible. You can practically see the train coming down the tracks…and yet you’re standing there with your book like, Well, I guess we’re going to watch this happen.

And happen it does.

Nobody is particularly trustworthy. Everyone seems at least slightly terrible. The atmosphere gets darker and more claustrophobic as the story goes on, and there’s something fascinating about watching someone become so desperate to belong that the line between admiration and obsession completely disappears.

Was it messy? Absolutely.

Were these people making spectacularly bad life choices? CONSTANTLY.

Could I stop reading about them?

Nope.

Social Creature is dark, strange, glamorous, and disturbing—a story about wanting someone else’s life so badly that you might just lose yourself trying to get it.

And apparently, watching fictional people completely ruin their lives is my idea of a good time.
