The Book of Cold Cases was such an addictive read for me. Simone St. James always does an amazing job mixing creepy supernatural elements with mystery, and this book had that perfect eerie atmosphere from the very beginning. The old mansion, the cold spots, the strange noises, the feeling that someone — or something — is always watching… it all felt unsettling in the best way.
I really liked Shea as a main character because her obsession with true crime and cold cases made her feel real and relatable. But honestly, Beth Greer completely stole the book for me. Every time she was on the page I kept going back and forth trying to decide if she was innocent, manipulative, or truly dangerous. She had this calm, unsettling presence that made the whole story even creepier.
The pacing slows down a little in the middle, but the atmosphere kept me hooked the entire time. This book feels perfect for anyone who loves gothic mysteries, haunted houses, true crime vibes, and stories where the past never really stays buried. It gave me that “just one more chapter” feeling the whole way through, especially once all the secrets started unraveling.
Definitely one of my favorite spooky mystery reads.
