We Call Them Witches

Give me witches, secrets, a creepy atmosphere, and women who don't quite fit where society thinks they should, and I'm probably going to read it.

We Call Them Witches pulled me in with its dark, unsettling feel. There’s something almost eerie hanging over the story from the beginning, and I loved that sense that you’re never completely sure what’s hiding underneath everything.

What I really enjoyed was the way the book played with the idea of what it actually means to call a woman a “witch.” Sometimes the scariest thing isn't magic at all—it’s what happens when women are feared, misunderstood, or simply refuse to behave the way they're expected to.

There were moments where I wanted the story to move a little faster, but the atmosphere kept me reading. It has that slow, creeping kind of darkness that gradually works its way under your skin rather than jumping out and scaring you.

And honestly, I will almost always have a soft spot for stories about complicated women, witchcraft, suspicion, and a little bit of darkness.
