Book-vs-Movie
To Kill A Mockingbird

đź“– The Book
What I Loved:
-
You get to know Scout, Jem, and Atticus on a much deeper level.
-
Scout's narration adds so much heart, humor, and emotion to the story.
-
The themes of justice, racism, compassion, and growing up are explored in much more detail.
-
Boo Radley's story feels more meaningful because you spend so much time building up to it.
What I Didn't Love:
-
The beginning is a little slower than I expected.
-
There are a lot of details that take time to build the story, so it isn't a fast read.

My Thoughts
For me, the book wins, but not by much. I loved being able to spend more time with the characters and really understand what they were thinking and feeling. The movie is still one of the best book-to-film adaptations I've seen, and Gregory Peck was the perfect Atticus Finch.
If I had to recommend just one, I'd say read the book first and then watch the movie. The book gives you the full experience, and the movie does a great job bringing it to life. Together, they make an unforgettable story.

đź“˝ The Movie
What I Loved:
-
Gregory Peck is fantastic as Atticus. He gives the character a quiet strength that really works.
-
The courtroom scenes are powerful and probably the strongest part of the movie.
-
The black-and-white cinematography gives Maycomb a haunting, almost nostalgic feeling
-
Seeing Scout, Jem and Boo on screen gives some of the emotional scenes extra impact.
What I Didn't Love:
-
Scout loses some of the humor and personality that make her narration so memorable in the book.
-
Boo Radley’s story feels more abbreviated.

My Thoughts
I think the movie is one of those rare adaptations that really respects its source material. Gregory Peck basically is Atticus Finch in my head now, and the courtroom scenes are incredibly well done. Some memorable moments were left out, you lose a lot of Scout’s perspective, and parts of the story felt rushed.
