Dead Letters

This book had such a cool setup—twins, a suspicious death, and a whole scavenger hunt of clues—and that alone was enough to pull me in.

It follows Ava, who comes back home after her twin sister Zelda supposedly dies in a fire…but she’s not really buying it. And honestly, neither was I. Zelda has big “would fake her own death just to prove a point” energy, so the mystery part definitely keeps you hooked. The clues she leaves behind (going through the alphabet) were a fun touch and made me want to keep reading just to see where it was going.

The vibe of this book is pretty dark and messy. The family is super dysfunctional—like, nobody is really okay—and there’s a lot of tension, secrets, and unresolved issues. If you like messy family drama mixed with a mystery, this definitely delivers.

That said, it’s not super fast-paced. It leans more into the characters and their relationships than nonstop twists, so it can feel a little slow at times. Also, the characters aren’t the most likable, which might not work for everyone.

Overall, I thought it was interesting and different. Not a super twisty thriller, but more of a moody, character-driven mystery. If you go in expecting that, it’s a pretty solid read.
