Set in a noir-flavored, supernatural Chicago, this story follows Helen Brandt—a private detective who’s already sold her soul and now has just a few days left to save the woman she loves. From the start, there’s this moody, smoky atmosphere mixed with angels, demons, and old-school detective vibes, and it works really well.

What I loved most was the relationship at the center of it all. The romance feels genuine and heartfelt, which makes the stakes hit harder. The writing is sharp and lyrical, and even though it’s a novella, it packs in a lot of emotion, tension, and world-building without feeling rushed.
