I’ll Stop the World honestly ended up being way more emotional than I expected. I thought I was getting a time travel mystery, but it turned into this really heartfelt story about grief, family, friendship, and wanting to change the past.

The story follows Justin, who somehow ends up back in 1985 and realizes he might be able to prevent the fire that killed his grandparents years before. The setup pulled me in pretty quickly, but what really kept me reading was the emotional side of the story and the relationships between the characters.

I also loved the small-town 80s atmosphere. It had this nostalgic feeling without overdoing it, and there was this constant underlying sadness and tension throughout the book that made everything feel more real.

The characters felt messy and believable too, especially Justin. He’s dealing with a lot, and watching him try to figure out what to change—and whether changing things is even the right thing to do—made the story hit harder emotionally.

It is a bit of a slower build in the beginning, and there are a few different perspectives to keep track of, but once everything starts coming together, it’s hard to put down. The ending especially stuck with me.
