Jack In The Box

Okay, this one pulls you in fast. The whole story starts with a woman receiving a box… and inside is her husband’s head. Like—immediately disturbing and impossible to ignore.

From there, it becomes a twisty investigation that keeps branching in different directions. Every time you think you might have it figured out, something else gets thrown in, and you’re back to guessing again.

I really liked Stone and Dehan as a team. Their dynamic feels easy, and kind of keeps everything grounded when the case itself gets pretty dark and chaotic. They’re the kind of detectives you don’t mind spending a whole series with.

The pacing is quick, which I appreciated—it’s one of those books that’s really easy to fly through. It’s not super deep or heavy on the psychological side, though, so if you’re looking for something really intense or layered, this might feel a little straightforward.

There are a lot of suspects, which adds to the mystery, but it can get a little confusing at times. Still, it keeps things interesting.
