Okay, this book hooked me way faster than I expected.

It starts off feeling really gritty and survival-heavy—Saeris is basically just trying to make it day to day in this harsh desert where water is everything. And then suddenly the story shifts into this whole fae world, and things get bigger, darker, and way more complicated.

I actually loved that contrast. The desert felt brutal and real, and the fae world wasn’t soft or magical in a pretty way—it was just as dangerous, just different. It kept me on edge the whole time.

Saeris is the kind of main character I tend to like—she’s not perfect, she makes questionable choices, but she’s tough and keeps going anyway. She felt messy in a believable way, not in an annoying one.

And the romance… yeah, it’s definitely there. Very enemies-to-lovers, lots of tension, a lot of back-and-forth. You can tell where it’s going pretty early, but honestly that didn’t bother me. The chemistry and banter carried it.

I will say, it does drag a little in the middle. There were a few spots where I found myself wanting things to move faster. But once it picks back up, it really pulls you in again.

Overall, I ended up really enjoying this one. It’s dark, a little chaotic, and super easy to get lost in once you’re in it.
