The Lost and Forgotten Languages is a quiet, emotional story that focuses more on the characters than the plot, and I found myself getting more invested the further I read.

The premise is so unique. After a tragic accident, Li Jing loses the ability to speak or understand Chinese and can only communicate in the English he learned as a child. Watching him and his family struggle through something so unexpected was both heartbreaking and fascinating.

This isn't a fast-paced book, and there aren't many shocking twists, but that didn't bother me. The strength of the story is in the relationships and the emotions. It really makes you think about communication, identity, and how easily the people we love can become strangers when those connections are broken.

The writing is beautiful without feeling overdone, and I appreciated how real the characters felt. They all have flaws, they make mistakes, and that made it easy to connect with them.

If you're looking for a thriller, this probably isn't the book for you. But if you enjoy thoughtful, character-driven stories that leave you with something to think about after you've finished, I'd definitely recommend giving this one a try. It was a slower read, but one I'm really glad I stuck with.
