In What Have You Done?, Shari Lapena brings her signature small-town suspense to a story that starts with a shock: a teenage girl found dead in a hayfield, and suddenly everyone in town becomes a suspect.
The book moves fast, told through short, sharp chapters that make it hard to put down. Lapena captures the claustrophobic feel of a quiet place where everyone knows each other—and no one can be trusted. Every character seems to be hiding something, and the shifting points of view keep you guessing who’s telling the truth.
It’s twisty and compulsively readable, though with so many characters, it can feel a little scattered. The ending ties things up neatly, maybe too neatly for readers looking for something darker or more psychological.
