Wild by Cheryl Strayed is one of those books that makes you feel things whether you’re ready for it or not.

On the surface, it’s about her hiking the Pacific Crest Trail alone, which is already kind of insane considering she’s not some experienced outdoorsy person at the start. She’s grieving, exhausted, and honestly a mess in a way that feels painfully real. But the hike isn’t really the whole story… It’s more like the only thing she can think to do when her life is falling apart, and she doesn’t know how to fix it.

What I loved about this book is how honest it is. Cheryl doesn’t sugarcoat anything. She talks about the worst parts of herself, the dumb decisions, the regret, the anger, the loneliness… all of it. And somehow it doesn’t feel depressing — it feels human. Like you’re watching someone try to claw their way back to themselves one blister and breakdown at a time.

There are moments that are brutal and heartbreaking, but there are also these little quiet parts that hit just as hard. It’s not trying to be inspirational in an annoying way. It’s more like, “Yeah, life can wreck you… but you can still keep going.”
