Hemlock Island

Well, this little island getaway certainly wasn't what anyone signed up for! Nothing says relaxation quite like creepy discoveries, strange happenings, and the possibility that something is lurking in the woods waiting to kill you.
Laney owns a secluded island that she rents out to vacationers, but when guests start reporting disturbing things, she decides to investigate. And because apparently one bad decision deserves another, she ends up on the island with her ex-husband and a group of people carrying enough emotional baggage to fill a small airport.
I love a good isolated setting, especially when there's nowhere to run and absolutely no one you can trust. Throw in a creepy forest, some gruesome discoveries, and a group of people who clearly have some unresolved issues, and you've got my attention!
The atmosphere was definitely one of my favorite parts. Armstrong does a great job making the island feel unsettling, and I loved that constant feeling that something wasn't quite right. Just when I thought I had things figured out, another disturbing discovery had me questioning everything.
Now, I will say, some of the relationship drama got on my nerves. Seriously, people! You're stranded on an island where horrifying things are happening, and THIS is when you want to hash out your personal problems? Maybe concentrate on staying alive first!
I also thought the story took a pretty wild turn toward the end. I wasn't entirely sure how I felt about the direction it went, and I would have liked a little more time for everything to come together. But I certainly can't complain about a lack of creepy moments or dead bodies!
Overall, Hemlock Island was a dark, disturbing, and entertaining read with plenty of secrets, supernatural weirdness, and some seriously questionable decisions. It wasn't perfect, but it had enough twists and unsettling moments to keep me turning the pages.
And one thing is certain: if I ever rent a secluded island getaway and find bloody bones and strange symbols scattered around, I'm packing my bags and getting the heck out. Some mysteries are better left unsolved!
