Oona Out of Order is one of those books that sounds a little strange at first but ends up being really charming. Oona doesn’t age normally—instead, every year on her birthday, she wakes up at a random age somewhere in her life. One year she’s a teenager, the next she might be in her forties, with no idea what happened in between.
The concept is fun, but the story ends up being way more emotional than I expected. It’s not really about time travel—it’s about relationships, missed chances, and figuring out who you are when life doesn’t come with a roadmap. Some parts are funny, some are bittersweet, and a few hit harder than you’d think.
Oona feels very real. She makes mistakes, gets things wrong, and sometimes struggles with the fact that she can’t control where—or when—she is. Watching her try to hold onto love and meaning when everything keeps shifting is surprisingly touching.
If you like character-driven stories with a unique twist and a lot of heart, this is a great pick. It’s thoughtful without being heavy, emotional without being overwhelming, and definitely one that sticks with you after you finish.
