The Girl Who Died

The Girl Who Died was creepy, strange, and definitely had me wondering what the heck was going on for most of the book. š It has that quiet, unsettling feeling where nothing huge is happening, but you just KNOW something isn't right.
Una takes a teaching job in this tiny village in Iceland, basically in the middle of nowhere. She thinks it'll be a fresh start, but almost immediately the place feels weird. Everyone knows everyone, nobody really wants her there, and they're clearly keeping secrets. Add in a creepy old house, strange noises, ghost stories, and a little girl who died years ago, and I was hooked.
This one is definitely a slow burn. There were a few times I wanted everyone to hurry up and tell me what they were hiding already! But I actually liked how isolated and claustrophobic the story felt. You don't know who Una should trustāor if you should completely trust Una either.
The ending wasn't quite what I expected, which I always appreciate, and there were a couple of moments that caught me completely off guard.
Overall, I really enjoyed this one. Creepy little village, suspicious people, buried secrets, possible ghosts...pretty much everything I want when I'm in the mood for a dark mystery. It takes its time getting there, but I'm glad I stuck with it.
