The Stolen Queen

I wasn't completely sure what to expect from The Stolen Queen, but ancient Egypt, a mystery, and the Met? Okay, you have my attention.

The story jumps between Egypt in the 1930s and New York in the 1970s, and I really enjoyed how the two timelines eventually started connecting. There’s archaeology, an ancient Egyptian queen, secrets, stolen artifacts, and plenty of mystery. Basically, there was a lot here to get me interested.

I will admit it took me a little while to really get into this one. There’s quite a bit of history and setup in the beginning, and at times I was ready for things to MOVE. But once the mystery really started unfolding, I was hooked.

What I probably enjoyed most was the atmosphere. I loved being transported between Egypt and the Met, and Fiona Davis did a great job making both settings feel like characters themselves. I also ended up going down a little ancient Egypt rabbit hole afterward, which is always a sign that a historical fiction book did something right. 😂

Was every twist a complete surprise? No. Did I still have a really good time reading it? Absolutely.

Mystery, history, strong women, ancient secrets, and just enough danger to keep me turning the pages. This was a really enjoyable historical fiction read and another reminder that maybe I should step outside my usual thrillers a little more often.
