The Unraveling Of Julia

The Unraveling of Julia by Lisa Scottoline was strange, twisty, atmospheric, and honestly a little hard to explain—which is part of what made it so interesting.
Julia’s story pulled me in because from the beginning, something just felt off. There’s grief, secrets, an unexpected inheritance, and this gorgeous old estate in Tuscany that should feel like a dream come true…but instead has this underlying sense that something isn't quite right.
And then things get weird.
The deeper Julia gets into the mystery surrounding the estate and her own connection to it, the more the story starts playing with reality, memory, and what she can actually trust. Several times, I thought I knew where everything was headed, only for the story to take another turn.
I loved the gothic atmosphere and the feeling of isolation. The Italian setting was beautiful, but something darker always lurked underneath. Julia herself is complicated and sometimes frustrating, but I actually liked that about her. She felt like someone trying desperately to hold herself together while everything around her—and eventually inside her—started unraveling.
A few moments felt a little too strange for me, and I wasn't completely sold on every direction it took. But I have to give Lisa Scottoline credit for writing something completely unexpected.
Overall, The Unraveling of Julia was a dark, unusual mystery filled with secrets, obsession, and that wonderful feeling that you can't quite trust what you're reading.
Definitely not your typical thriller—and I think that's exactly the point.
